The impact to Zoom services was as follows :- From 17:50 to 18:30 UTC users attempting to login, signup, reset their password, use Zoom scheduler or register for a webinar may have experienced an error in completing the reCAPTCHA challenge. From 17:50 to 18:30 UTC users in Canada, Australia, the EU, Singapore and the US may have been unable to playback meeting recordings. From 17:38 to 19:15 UTC users using Google Workspace may have been unable to schedule or update Zoom meeting links in calendar invites. From 17:52 to 20:17 UTC users may have been unable to stream meetings to YouTube. From 17:59 to 20:18 UTC users may have been unable to access the Zoom Support voicebot. The incident has been resolved and the services have recovered.

Zoom is aware of the critical nature of our services, and it is our responsibility to provide the highest availability. We sincerely apologize for the incident and the impact on our customers. We take this very seriously, and our goal is to do everything possible to make sure this type of incident cannot happen again. Included is the summary, root cause, solution, and the prevention plan. Service Issue: Reported: April 16, 2025 11:25 AM PDT Resolved: April 16, 2025 1:12 PM PDT Summary: Customers could not access Zoom services in the US and International regions due to the unavailability of the zoom.us domain. Root Cause: On April 16, 2025, Zoom started to investigate the zoom.us domain resolution failures. Upon investigation, Zoom's domain name servers were properly replying to requests. However, upon further investigation with our registrar Markmonitor and GoDaddy Registry, the domain zoom.us was unavailable due to a server block by GoDaddy Registry. This block was the result of a communication error between Zoom’s domain registrar, Markmonitor, and GoDaddy Registry, which resulted in GoDaddy Registry mistakenly shutting down the zoom.us domain. There was no product, security, network failure, or Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attack at Zoom during the outage. End users who had already joined Zoom meetings or Zoom phone calls were not impacted. Any start, join, or schedule meetings actions were unable to be completed successfully since the requests required a DNS lookup, which could not be completed. Solution: Zoom, Markmonitor, and GoDaddy worked to identify and remove the server block, which restored service to the zoom.us domain. Due to the DNS entries themselves being cached at multiple levels and having a time-to-live (TTL) set, it took a few additional minutes to propagate across all Internet infrastructure after the zoom.us domain reactivation. Prevention: Zoom worked with GoDaddy Registry and Markmonitor to implement additional technical changes and processes to help ensure that this issue does not reoccur. As a part of that change, GoDaddy Registry and Markmonitor have already put in place a registry lock that restricts server block commands from being placed on the zoom.us domain.

Zoom is continuously optimizing our global footprint to improve performance and availability for our customers. With this, starting from Jan 10th, 2025, Zoom Phone and Zoom Contact Center plans to shift traffic from old data centers to our newer data centers with weekly continuous migration changes.The Zoom Phone and Zoom Contact Center team will start to change the sip zone from the old sip zone to the new sip zone in the backend. We are sending out this notification to inform our customers of this change along with some reminders which will assist customers. We wanted to remind customers for optimal experience, and to avoid any potential issues, to please allow Zoom Traffic to all subnets located on our Zoom Network Firewall page. This includes specific sections for Zoom Phone & Zoom Contact Center.Customers would see the change in the admin portal of their sites showing the new sip zone after those changes if “Display Custom SIP Zone Options on Web Portal” feature is enabled in Zoom Phone. Customers would not see the sip zone name in Zoom Contact Center thus no portal change for Contact Center customers.Please note that all hardware phones will automatically reboot when a data center migration is triggered. If you have an ongoing call, it will reboot once the call has ended.
