All data is live and fully accessible in all customer instances.

monitoring

After monitoring over the weekend, all new data including Audit data, Policy data, User data and history data is flowing correctly. During the outage we have a large amount of data in a queue that we have to replay to get that data into your instance, which we are actively doing now. There was no data loss, but some data may be slow to show up in your instance from that period of time. If you have any questions please reach out, we will keep this open until all data is live for all customers.

New events and policies are properly flowing from our backend, we will continue to monitor and validate data throughout the weekend.

We have identified and remedied the source of the bottleneck. Events and policies are queued and will eventually appear. We will continue to provide updates here.

Any events that occurred during that time are not accessible via the V1 Audit API or the Audit Page of the Control Center. The root cause of the issue was a bug in a release. All audit events are still available via the Audit V2 framework. In addition, this incident does NOT impact data in the My Data and Org Data sections of the Control Center. The issue only impacts products leveraging the Audit V1 Framework (Audit API V1 & Audit Page). Don't hesitate to contact Virtru Customer Support (support.virtru.com) if you have any questions. resolved

After monitoring the situation closely over the weekend, the issue appears to be resolved. We still plan to release an updated version of Virtru for Gmail this week. That way, once Google re-releases their planned update on March 11th, no users should experience any adverse behavior with Virtru. If you have any further questions or concerns, please reach out to Virtru Customer Support.

monitoring

We believe the issue should be resolved for most impacted within the next hour. After coordinating with Google, it appears they may have pushed a planned update to their Scheduled Release channel earlier than they initially communicated. Google is rolling that change back, which should resolve the issue for most users shortly. In addition, Virtru has identified a potential fix and is testing it now. Once complete, we plan to submit it to Google and then release it once it is approved. This prevents the user from activating or using Virtru for Gmail. Normal troubleshooting steps (cache clear, reinstall, etc.) do not seem to solve the problem for impacted users. The issue does not seem to be impacting the vast majority of Gmail users at the moment, and no other Virtru products are impacted. However, given the severity of the issue, we want to ensure we address it as soon as possible. We will provide another update as soon as we have one.

investigating

We have found a bug after the release of the Virtru for Microsoft Add-In V1.12.0. The issue occurs when sending an unencrypted message that would trigger a "Warn" DLP rule. Normally a popup would appear giving users the option to encrypt the message or send unencrypted anyway. Instead, no modal pops up and the send will fail. To work around this issue, you can: - Move from Microsoft Desktop to Outlook Web Access (OWA) and try sending again. - Temporarily Disable the WARN rule in the Virtru Control Center. Please note: This issue is only impacting users leveraging the Virtru for Microsoft Add-in on Windows Desktop. If you are using another Virtru product (ex. Gmail) or leveraging the Virtru Add-in on OWA, this issue should NOT impact you and you can disregard this alert. The Virtru engineering team is actively investigating a fix for this issue. We will provide an update as soon as we have one. Don't hesitate to contact Virtru Customer Support if you have questions in the interim (support@virtru.com).

Report: "Upgrade log4j to 2.17.0"

Last update
resolved

This incident has been resolved.

monitoring

We have released an updated version of the Virtru On-prem Gateway that updates log4j to 2.17.0 to fix CVE-2021-45105. If you leverage an on-prem Virtru Gateway, we recommend all users upgrade to the latest version of the gateway. If you do not leverage a on-prem Virtru Gateway, no action is needed from you to resolve the vulnerability. We continue to monitor the situation and will provide additional patches and updates as needed. Do not hesitate to reach out to support@virtru.com if you have additional questions or concerns.

Report: "Virtru & Log4J Vulnerability"

Last update
resolved

This issue has been resolved. Virtru will continue to monitor the situation both internally and externally, but all products have been patched and all customers hosting their own versions of Virtru have been given time to upgrade. If you have any additional questions or concerns, do not hesitate to contact support@virtru.com. We always want to be as transparent as possible in situations like these.

monitoring

We have released updated versions of both the Virtru Hosted and On-prem Gateways that include additional hardening against the log4j vulnerability. No action is needed from Virtru Hosted Gateway customers as that product updates automatically. If you leverage an on-prem Gateway, we recommend all users upgrade to one of the two latest versions immediately (if you have not done so already). Do not hesitate to reach out to support@virtru.com if you have additional questions or concerns.

monitoring

Virtru has been closely following developments of the Log4j Remote Code Execution (RCE) CVE-2021-44228 and began taking action on 12/10/2021. Virtru quickly identified all internal uses of Log4j and followed recommended guidance to patch all impacted software and systems, successfully completed by 12/11/2021. During this time period Virtru observed no exploited systems. Virtru continues to monitor all applications and infrastructure and is in communication with 3rd party vendors which may be impacted as well. Additionally, the majority of Virtru's infrastructure is designed to be resilient to these types of exploits. Virtru operates with strict outbound traffic filtering rules, allowing outbound internet connections only to explicitly allowed endpoints. This adds a significant layer of security and substantially mitigates the risk for the anticipated attack vectors related to this CVE. Virtru has also communicated directly to all impacted customers who self-host a Virtru product that uses vulnerable versions of the Log4j library, provided patched software versions, and instructions on how to upgrade. We recommend taking immediate action - and are happy to assist wherever needed. If you do not use a self-hosted Virtru product (which is the vast majority of Virtru users), then the vulnerability has already been patched and no additional action is needed from you. Do not hesitate to reach out to support@virtru.com if you have additional questions or concerns.

Report: "Virtru for Drive: Virtru Menu options not showing"

Last update
resolved

After monitoring the issue, we can confirm it is resolved. We traced the root cause back to unannounced selector changes that Google made to Drive. This prevented Virtru from correctly displaying encryption options within the Drive interface. We have confirmed that our fix resolves this issue and we will close this incident. Sincerest apologies to any inconvenience this caused you and your business.

monitoring

A fix has been released that should fully resolve the issue for all impacted users. We are going to continue to monitor the situation. If you are still experiencing issues, we recommend doing a hard page refresh and/or disabling and then re-enabling the extension. If you are still experiencing issues after that, please reach out to support@virtru.com.

identified

The issue has been identified. We are engineering a fix and hope to begin testing it shortly. We will provide another update as soon as we have one.

investigating

We are investigating an issue with Virtru for Drive where Virtru menu options are not appearing within the Drive interface. The issue occurs despite Virtru being active, but the usual Virtru options do not appear (ex. upload an encrypted file, encrypt a file, etc.). This is preventing usage of Virtru for Drive and may also cause sporadic activation failures. The Virtru engineering team is investigating this issue and working to engineer a fix as soon as possible. We will provide another update here as soon as we have one. Note: This issue is only for users leveraging Virtru for Drive. Virtru for Gmail has NOT been impacted and is fully operational.
