Report: "[SEV-1] Togetherpay - Intermittent Processing Issues"
Last updateRegarding the incident on Monday, October 14 between 2:25 p.m. - 3:25 p.m. eastern: ProPay identified several servers in an unhealthy state after maintenance was performed to relieve an increased size of the replication distribution database. This maintenance caused a disconnect between the application layer and the database layer, resulting in transactions timeouts. Resolution: Support teams performed a failover to the secondary server, which restored service. Additional review is being performed to improve monitoring, alerting and response plans for any similar situations in the future.
ProPay implemented their fix, monitored results and resolved the incident. We noticed significant timeouts between 2:26 p.m. - 3:18 p.m. eastern. Processing is back to normal. This incident is resolved.

Last updateTogetherwork identified the root cause of the failed 9/3 production deployment. It was primarily caused by: 1. GitLab downtime - initial delay in the deployment was due to GitLab being down, which also caused subsequent slowness in the pipeline 2. Database migration issues - new column migrations were not applied correctly, leading to application errors and failure in displaying merchants 3. Incomplete Rollback - the rollback did not fully restore the previous state, causing further site downtime. Corrective actions that are being implemented include: 1. Improved GitLab monitoring 2. Database migration testing 3. Improved rollback procedures 4. Pipeline optimization The 9/3 incident was resolved by fully reverting to a previous, stable branch. Between 1:00 a.m.-1:37 p.m. eastern, Togetherwork Products could have experienced intermittent processing issues. Two windows were identified as complete payment processing outages: 6:04 a.m. - 7:45 a.m. eastern 12:03 p.m. - 1:37 p.m. eastern The re-deploy is scheduled for Wednesday, 9/11 between 1:00 a.m. - 4:00 a.m. eastern.
The Togetherpay production release was successfully rolled back. All systems are fully functioning as they were prior to this morning's roll. This incident is resolved.

Transactions processed between 3/6/2024 to 3/21/2024 were primarily impacted. ProPay apologizes for any related disruptions. They continue to review the situation to 1) identify additional opportunities to improve the merchant + cardholder experience and 2) prevent a recurrence of this type of issue.

Last updateProPay identified the root cause of the 3/9 processing disruption. The issue was caused by an Internet Service Provider outage related to ProPay's primary data center. Impact was mitigated by re-directing traffic to an alternate site while the ISP addressed and corrected the issue. Several action items were identified by ProPay/Global Payments teams to improve monitoring and mitigation efforts to reduce impact of future similar such events.
ProPay experienced a connectivity issue earlier this morning between 3:43 a.m. - 4:37 a.m. eastern. A majority of the transactions processed during this timeframe were unable to be processed. ProPay resolved the issue and normal processing resumed. The root cause is still under investigation. As soon as we have more details, we will add them to a postmortem.

Last updateElevated decline/error rates for Discover charges occurred earlier today from 2:08 p.m. - 4:52 p.m. eastern as a result of an outage impacting the Discover card network. Success rates have returned to normal. We will continue to monitor but are considering this incident resolved.
We are aware of an issue that is preventing some Discover transactions from successfully processing. While we haven't received anything official from ProPay, we have received notification from other processors confirming the Discover network is affected. While most Discover transactions are declining or erroring, some are successfully processing. Non-Discover cards are not affected. As soon as additional information is known, we will let you know.

Last updateMissing settlement files are now available in the Togetherpay application and via API. This incident is resolved.
The source of the issue was determined to be ProPay. They mistakenly changed the headers in the report Togetherpay uses to generate settlement files. ProPay reverted their change last night and delivered corrected versions of the files (11/10-11/16). Our developer is working to re-run the process that generates settlement files. As soon as all missing files are available, we will let you know. Regular settlement files for today (11/17) generated properly. All other files were not affected.
We are aware of a situation affecting regular settlement files for indirect LOBs. The last date a regular settlement file generated was November 9. The situation is limited to regular settlement files - funds flow was not affected. Comprehensive reports and merchant settlement files were also not affected. Teams are working to identify the cause of the issue so a fix can be implemented. As we learn more we will let you know..
Report: "[SEV-4] Togetherpay - ProPay AMEX Soft Descriptor Issue"
Last updateOn October 14, changes were implemented by American Express \(AMEX\) to adjust how Merchant Category Codes \(MCCs\) are mapped to Service Establishment \(SE\) groups. AMEX merchant descriptor behavior is related to these groupings. The change resulted in invalid merchant descriptors being displayed for cardholders. ProPay teams became aware of the issue on October 28 and implemented changes to correct the issue on November 4. ProPay apologizes for any issues this caused merchants and cardholders. Teams worked with AMEX to ensure details of future changes are clearly communicated to prevent similar situations down the line.
ProPay finished their review of transactions processed over the weekend. Amex soft descriptors should be displaying properly to cardholders. This incident is resolved.
ProPay implemented a fix last Friday, 11/4. They planned to monitor transactions over the weekend to ensure proper soft descriptors were displayed. As soon ProPay provides another update we will let you know.
After some production testing today, ProPay identify an additional task that must be completed in order to fully correcting the Amex soft descriptor issue. ProPay's teams are working to complete the task. We will keep you informed as we learn more.

Last updateAt 11:51 a.m. eastern, CPU usage spiked to 100%. At 2:18 p.m. eastern the instance was rebooted to free up resources. Intermittent transaction processing issues could have occurred between 11:51 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. eastern with all transactions failing during a 10 window during the reboot (2:18 p.m. - 2:28 p.m. eastern). CPU usage is hovering around 90% at the moment. IT Ops plans to size up the database this evening to handle the load. A separate maintenance event will be posted with additional details about that event.

ProPay is aware of an issue that is preventing some transactions from being processed. The issue began around 9:28 p.m. eastern and affects about 8% of transactions. ProPay is actively working to resolve the issue. As soon as additional information is known, we will let you know.
