Our engineering teams quickly identified that a recent internal service deployment experienced an unexpected failure, impacting login methods and some application features. A rollback of this deployment was initiated, and full service was restored by approximately 7:19 AM PDT. We are reviewing our deployment processes and internal service dependencies to prevent future occurrences.

Last updateOn April 4th, 2025 at 2:50 PM PDT, an issue occurred during an update to the Dashboard database. This resulted in Dashboards becoming unavailable and caused partial disruptions to other services that interact with Dashboards. Our engineering teams immediately identified the issue and began the restoration process. The Dashboard database was successfully restored, and all Dashboard functionality and related services were returned to full operational status by 3:53 PM PDT. There was no data loss as a result of this incident. We are reviewing the update process and the error that occurred to implement improvements and prevent similar occurrences in the future.

Last updateAt 1:12pm PST a few large customers made a configuration change in their applications which caused db replication delay and prevented all Smartsheet users from creating and viewing sheets, forms, reports, and/or dashboards. The issue was promptly identified and resolved by 2:33pm PST. During that time, users were unable to access sheets, forms, reports, and/or dashboards in Smartsheet.

Last updateA brief service disruption occurred at Smartsheet on September 4th, 2024, impacting some users' ability to log in. The issue began at 6:16 AM PT and was resolved by 6:50 AM PT on the same day. The disruption was attributed to a recent change in the login infrastructure, which necessitated further load flexibility adjustments. To quickly restore service, the change was rolled back. While not all deployments and service releases are communicated to customers, Smartsheet acknowledges the delay in posting about the outage and pledges to ensure timely communication about similar incidents in the future.

Last updateAt 3:26 AM PDT on August 14th, 2024, Smartsheet users encountered an error preventing them from selecting a new sheet when creating or editing specific automated workflows. The issue was traced to a recent change in the search UI component within a WAUI release. A rollback of the WAUI release was implemented, successfully resolving the issue by 4:24 AM PDT. Further investigation into the root cause within the search UI change is ongoing.

After initial investigation our teams identified the source of the problem and began mitigation. By 9:40 AM errors began dropping back down. By 10:20 AM Forms, Dashboards, WorkApps, Admin Center identity reporting monitors were recovering and back to normal. We are making improvements based on our learnings from the incident to avoid similar incidents in the future.

Last updateAt 11:10 am PDT on July 24th, 2024, we noticed that users couldn’t exit out of a modal dialog shown on top of sheets to introduce the new Board View. The team applied an initial fix by 12:03 pm but some more instances of the issue were observed starting 12:06 pm. The investigation resumed and the issue was fully resolved by 2:06 pm.

The Engineering team identified the source of these problems as the residual effect of recovering from the incident on the previous day. They optimized this process to reduce the load on the service, restoring it to health by 5:20 PM PDT the same day.

Last updateAt 1:30pm PDT on July 15th, 2024, we began investigating issues with automation delays, errors while editing automations, issues with automations retriggering in quick succession, errors loading or saving certain sheets and reports, and issues with certain report widgets on dashboards. Automation delays and errors editing automations were caused by inefficient handling of workflows on deleted sheets, resulting in extensive queue length. These were resolved around 5:45pm PDT. Issues with automations retriggering and errors loading sheets, reports, and report widgets were traced back to a misconfigured trust store that caused cell links to alternate invalid references and valid values that led to excessive cell change processing in our grid databases and latency while loading or saving sheet data. Our engineering team corrected the trust store, and normal service operation was restored on July 15th, 2024 at 6:15pm PDT.

We identified the root cause as outages in specific regions at the provider of services that power our Smartsheet AI features. In order to make AI features available to our users, we re-homed our service to use regions that were not impacted by our provider's outage. All features were back online and available to all eligible customers by 2:36 AM PDT on July 13, 2024.

Report: "Smartsheet App Connectivity"
Last updateOn May 28, 2024 at 9:00am PT, our Core Application in the US region experienced a deployment issue. This caused a core Smartsheet database to crash before the team could roll back that deployment. Our team immediately tried to fail over to a database replica. However, as we started bringing traffic back to the new primary database, a “retry storm” from API callers caused an increased volume of traffic; this replica database was then stressed beyond capacity and crashed. At that point, our team failed over to a second replica and started to bring the traffic back at a more suitable pace to fully restore the Smartsheet service. The US region was the only region impacted. FedGov and EMEA regions were not affected and continued to operate without customer impact. We know how critical our services are to our customers and apologize for any impact this incident may have had on you and your business. We promise that we will do everything we can to learn from this event and use it to drive improvement across our services to ensure that Smartsheet is a partner that can be counted on to deliver. We know that your success—and your continued trust in Smartsheet—depends on it.
