We have identified that this is related to the nationwide wireless carrier outage.
We are currently investigating an elevated error rate for text messages to multiple wireless providers. Two factor codes or phone verification codes delivered by SMS may return errors or fail to be delivered. Other two factor authentication mechanisms, such as Authenticator App (TOTP) or backup codes, should be unaffected. The team is working to identify the cause and resolve it. We appreciate your patience in the meantime.

We have deployed a fix for the identified issue, and are seeing decreased rates of errors for all in-person proofing users. We will continue to monitor the in-person proofing service, and other Login.gov components, while the fix continues to propagate, and will provide additional information/updates as they become available.
Some users may encounter issues accessing in-person proofing. We have identified a fix and are working to implement it as soon as possible. All other services are functioning normally at this time. We will provide an update as soon as more information is available.

We have deployed an update to the Login.gov web application which appears to have corrected the error. We will continue to monitor our metrics and performance, and will provide additional updates as they become available.
Some users may experience errors and/or slow performance when signing in to Login.gov. We are investigating the cause at this time and will provide more information when it is available. Due to the nature of the error, we recommend using a personal mobile device to sign in to Login.gov, as said error has not been encountered/identified to be affecting mobile sign-ins.

The upstream provider has informed us that the email service should no longer be affected or experience degraded performance. We have not identified any service interruptions or outages for this component, or Login.gov, since the last update. We will continue to monitor this and other services for Login.gov, and will provide updates as they become available.
We have recently identified an upstream service disruption for emails delivered from Login.gov. As a result, some users may experience errors and/or slow performance while the service provider remediates this issue. Login.gov has been experiencing a critical outage impacting our help site at www.login.gov. Other services including sign in, MFA, new account creation, and identity verification were not impacted and continued to operate. This outage appears to have been related to an upstream provider, which is now online, and the site is once again operational. We will continue to monitor our site and systems, and will provide additional updates as soon as we have more information to share.
