Last update## **Articulate 360 Services: Intermittent Performance Issues \(March 13-24, 2025\)** On March 13th, 2025 at approximately 12:00 PM PST, customers experienced intermittent issues with Articulate 360 services due to a memory issue on one of our core backend services. Performance stabilized on March 21st, 2025 at 2:00 PM PST. We are committed to ensuring that all of our products are available so that you have what you need, when you need it. After a detailed analysis, we're now sharing what happened, how we responded, and the steps we've taken to improve our systems and processes going forward. ## Incident Details On March 13th, customers experienced intermittent performance issues and errors with Articulate 360 Services. The incident lasted for 11 days, with services fully restored on March 24, 2025 at 12:00 PM PST. Impact: * Some customers reported trouble using Review 360 Share links * Difficulty accessing desktop tools * Issues staying logged into web-hosted tools * Services would return to normal for significant periods of time and then experience problems during isolated windows Timeline: * March 13, 12:00 PM PST: Initial reports of intermittent performance issues * March 13: Identified apparent memory leak; reverted a system change made earlier in the day * March 14-16: Services appeared functional for many hours; upgraded third-party monitoring tool to collect more information * March 17: Made an update to solve a secondary memory leak; symptoms returned after 4-5 hours * March 20: Discovered the monitoring tool had its own memory leak; attempted to reverse the upgrade * March 21, 2:00 PM PST: Identified our mistake and correctly downgraded the monitoring tool, stopping the final leak * March 21-24: Continued monitoring for any issues over the weekend * March 24, 12:00 PM PST: Confirmed normal performance and resolved the incident ## Root Cause Our investigation revealed two separate memory leaks affecting our systems: 1. An initial memory leak that we incorrectly attributed to a system change made on March 13 2. A second memory leak inadvertently introduced when we upgraded our third-party monitoring tool to collect more diagnostic information These memory leaks caused our systems to hit memory limits, resulting in the intermittent performance issues experienced by \[some\] customers. ## Actions Taken As a result of this incident, we have identified the following actions: * Make an architecture change that eliminates extended downtime when making required changes to database clusters. * Adjust our monitoring thresholds to accommodate faster speeds of these services. * Work with our third-party vendor to prevent similar issues in the future. ## Articulate’s Commitment to Excellence Every day, you entrust Articulate with the crucial mission of training your customers, employees, and teams—a responsibility we take very seriously and value deeply. We are committed to ensuring that all of our products are highly available so that you have what you need, when you need it. After a detailed analysis, we're now sharing what happened, how we responded, and the steps we've taken to improve our systems and processes going forward. ## **Incident Details** On March 11, 2025, Rise 360 was unavailable for 70 minutes. At 07:34ET Rise 360 on-call engineers were paged due to a failing service health check monitor. Our incident response plan was activated and the on call Product Engineer began coordinating resolution. Engineers identified the root cause of the issue as a misconfigured environment variable used by many services in our infrastructure. This was caused by a duplicate definition of the environment variable. Engineers took steps to reset the environment variable and redeploy services to bring them back up. Service was restored for all customers, at 08:44ET. Last updateOn February 24th 2025, Articulate 360 had an outage in the EU Data Center due to misconfiguration in our platform infrastructure. We are committed to ensuring that all of our data centers are highly available so that you have what you need, when you need it. After a detailed analysis, we're now sharing what went wrong, how we responded, and the steps we've taken to improve our systems and processes going forward. ## **Summary** On February 24th at 02:13ET, customers were reporting that they were unable to access Rise 360 and Review 360 in the EU Data Center due to a certificate error. Our incident response plan was activated and the on call Product Engineer escalated to the Platform team. We identified the expired certificate and were able to quickly remediate the issue. Once the expired certificate was replaced, the issue was resolved for our customers. As a result of this incident, the following remediation actions have been identified: we’ll be auditing our infrastructure for potential additional certificate management issues, as well as enhancing our monitoring to prevent future occurrences of this issue. Additional information about lessons learned and next steps are summarized at the end of this report. ## **Details** This report shares the factors that contributed to the incident, the remediations put in place, as well as lessons learned and go-forward improvements to help prevent similar incidents in the future. ### _**Incident: Monday, February 24th \(99 minutes\):**_ From approximately 02:13ET to 03:52ET, Rise 360 and Review 360 were unavailable in the EU Data Center. * **Root Cause:** the downtime in the EU Datacenter was caused by an expired TLS certificate for [articulateusercontent.eu](http://articulateusercontent.eu/). * **Identification:** upon reviewing the `ERR_CERT_DATE_INVALID` error while loading courses and inspecting the certificate via the browser, it was determined that the certificate for [articulateusercontent.eu](http://articulateusercontent.eu/) had expired. The certificate had failed to auto-renew due to a missing DNS validation record, which in turn was caused by a misconfiguration in our infrastructure code. * **Remediation:** We corrected the misconfiguration that led to the missing validation record and ensured that the certificate was re-generated correctly. ## **Lessons Learned and Next Steps** In response to the incident, we are committed to not only addressing the immediate issues but also implementing robust measures to safeguard against similar events in the future. Report: "Articulate 360: Errors when using Articulate 360 Services"
Last updateOn September 26, 2024 between 8:30 am and 9:36 am Pacific Time \(PT\) Articulate 360 was unavailable for customers. In addition, 360 Review was unavailable until 10:06 am PT. At 8:30 am PT during a regular update of our services we deployed two services to production. One of the services is responsible for authentication of users and the other is responsible for all AI services. At the same time, \(unknown to us\) there was an incident at our 3rd party cloud provider. Given this, when we deployed these two services to production, the cloud provider was unable to properly register the new targets to our load balancers. We immediately reached out to our cloud providers support team and our assigned technical account manager. And they promptly investigated the issue. At 9:34 am PT our cloud provider confirmed that they had partially fixed the issue and advised us to re-register the targets at that time with the load balancer. Our team did this immediately and within a few minutes the services were back up and running.
This incident has been resolved.
All of the Articulate 360 services, www.articulate.com, and E-Learning Heroes are operational! We'll continue to monitor performance.

As an update, we have discovered this issue also impacts invitations to Reach 360 admins, managers, and reporters. We are continuing to work on a fix for this problem, and we'll let you know as soon as it is resolved.
Hello, Articulate 360 users! We are working to resolve an issue where invited admins and seatholders may be unable to accept an invitation to join an Articulate 360 team if the team is in a trial. Paid Articulate 360 subscriptions are not affected. We're sorry for the interruption, and we'll let you know as soon as this is fixed!
Report: "Rise 360: Issues Loading Dashboard"
Last updateRise 360 is working normally, and we're sorry, as this was a false alarm. Our team saw a handful of customer reports today, and the team reacted quickly to solve it. By doing so, we missed some inconsistencies in the timestamp of the reports, which would have linked it to an earlier resolved issue. There was no customer impact today. We're sorry for the additional noise and concern this may have caused.
We're investigating reports from some Rise 360 users who are having difficulty with their Rise 360 Dashboards not loading. The issue impacts a subset of users, and we're investigating each report.
